Packing lingerie starts with what you plan to wear, not a fixed number of items. A short city break, a wedding weekend and a longer trip with laundry access can call for different choices. Use the checklist below to organise garments you already own and identify anything you still need to check before closing your bag.
Start with an outfit list
Write down your planned outfits and the undergarments you want to wear with each. Include your travelling outfit, not just what goes into the suitcase. Try unfamiliar combinations at home so the trip is not the first time you discover that a neckline, strap or fastening does not work with your clothes.
Give each planned item a purpose. If you have packed several alternatives for the same outfit, decide which you actually prefer. This is a planning exercise, not a rule that everyone needs the same number of bras, briefs or sets. Leave room for your own comfort, preferences and change-of-plan needs.
Pack according to construction
Look at the actual garment before deciding how to arrange it. A structured cup needs different space from a soft, unstructured piece. Avoid forcing shaped cups flat or twisting wires to fit a small compartment. Triumph's folding and storage guide discusses keeping cups and wires in shape and leaving room rather than overfilling a bag.
An organiser is optional. Start by seeing whether a suitable pouch or separate section of your existing bag will work. Check that it has enough room for the items you want to put inside; a container that closes only under pressure does not solve a space problem. Do not assume every garment described as lace, satin or mesh should be folded the same way.
Keep the pieces of each set identifiable
Before packing a multi-piece outfit, lay out the pieces you actually own. Use your own list rather than a styled product photograph: what was shown in a picture may not be what came with your purchase. Record detachable straps or other small accessories you intend to bring.
Assign each set a simple name such as “evening outfit” or “day two”. Add that name to your packing list and note where you put it. You can use the same list when leaving your accommodation, so checking a set means counting its pieces rather than trying to remember what you brought.
Make a realistic laundry plan
Check the care labels before relying on washing garments during the trip. If an item's instructions do not fit the facilities or time available, plan an alternative. Do not turn a laundry pouch into permission to machine-wash an item whose label does not allow it.
Keep care information easy to find, particularly when using a laundry service. Ask for clarification if instructions are missing or unclear. This guide does not prescribe one temperature, detergent or drying method for all lingerie.
Use a packing worksheet
Copy this table into your notes and add one row per garment or set. The sample is a planning example, not a recommended shopping list.
| Item or set | Planned outfit | Pieces counted | Packing location | Care instructions checked | Return check |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Evening set | Dinner outfit | List your own pieces | Chosen compartment | Yes / needs checking | All pieces present? |
| Everyday item | Daytime outfit | List your own pieces | Chosen compartment | Yes / needs checking | Packed / worn / laundry |
| Your next item | Your outfit | Your count | Your location | Your check | Your check |
Before departure, ask: Have I tried the important outfit combinations? Can I identify each set? Is any structured garment being squeezed to make the bag close? Does my laundry plan match the labels? Have I included the items I will wear while travelling?
At the end of the trip, mark which pieces are packed, being worn or awaiting laundry. Note anything you packed but never wanted to use. That gives you a personal starting point for your next trip, rather than another universal packing formula.
